Okay, this is my first reader insert so go easy on me! And please leave a comment and let me know what you think!!

~~*~~*~~*~~

The snow was coming down hard and fast, and it was hitting your face like a thousand tiny daggers. You pulled your coat around you tighter and ducked your head against the wind, trying to watch where you put your feet. The snow was coming down so hard that you could hardly see three feet in front of you, and you had already tripped over roots and other objects hidden in the snow several times.

It must've been five degrees below zero or something! It wasn't like this when you had left your house earlier that afternoon to go for a walk.

The day had started as an average day in early December. There wasn't a world meeting that day and instead of just sitting around at home, you had decided to go for a little walk. It wasn't terribly cold and there was a light, powdery blanket of snow covering the ground. But you had decided to wear your coat just to be safe. The weather report said that there would be some snow later that afternoon.

You loved going for walks, especially when it was a little chilly out. The air was clean, crisp and cleared your head of tangled thoughts or headaches caused by the world meetings. A person could only take so much of Alfred's hero speeches, Arthur and Francis fighting over something or other, and just the general chaos that goes on during those meetings.

About twenty minutes into your walk it started to lightly snow. You didn't bother turning around because it was just the light fluffy stuff. Besides, it was still pretty nice out and you would occasionally catch the snow flakes on your tongue. Still, you were glad you decided to bring your coat.

Soon you were very glad you brought your coat because the wind started to pick up and the snow fell a little harder.

You decided that now would be the perfect time to head home.

You lived nearby a small forest and there were trails that went around the whole thing, you had been currently walking along one of those trails. By this time you figured you were on the side of the woods opposite of where you lived and thought that it would be a lot quicker to just take a straight shot through the woods than to walk all the way back around. You weren't worried, you walked through these woods all the time and knew the place like the back of your hand. And as long as you walked in a straight line you thought that you would be fine.

Though you didn't know that everything looks different during a snowfall like this, and that things were only going to get worse.

As you were walking through the small forest the wind picked up even more, causing the snow to fall steadily harder. For a while the wind blew at your back, seeming to push you on and urging you to quicken your pace.

But your luck couldn't last forever and eventually the freezing wind was in your face. Driving the now not-so-fluffy snow in your face and making your trudge through the snow a lot slower.

What the heck!? You thought, the weather report said that there would be some snow, but not a freaking blizzard!!

You were brought forcefully from your thoughts as you fell flat on your face after, once again, tripping on something hidden in the snow.

Cursing loudly as the snow soaked through your coat, you sat up. Now that your coat and pants were wet, you were much colder than before. Your fingers were numb and you wished that you had brought some gloves as you breathed into your hands. You stood up, wrapping your arms around yourself in an attempt to get warm and to stop your now uncontrollable shivering.

Shouldn't I have been home by know? You thought, becoming increasingly worried. You looked around and realized with a shock that you had no idea where you were. You had thought that if you kept walking in a straight line you would reach home soon. Apparently you hadn't been going in a straight line.

You tried to get your bearings, but-thanks to the snow-all of the trees looked the same.

Starting to panic, arms wrapped around yourself and teeth chattering, you tumbled in the direction you were facing. You were trying to keep from falling again and walking straight into a tree. This was difficult though, because the wind was pounding snow in your face and you could hardly see more than several feet in front of you.

Your body was almost completely numb and you were getting tired from your struggle against the wind. If you didn't find someplace warm soon, you didn't think you would survive.

Soon the tree line ended and you found yourself in a field. At least you thought it was a field, what with the curtain of snow and all.

You hesitated at the tree line, unsure of what to do.

Then, somewhere ahead of you, you saw a dark figure. At first you couldn't tell what it was, but realized that it was a person. You didn't know who it was, you couldn't tell due to the snow, and you didn't know what the heck they were doing out in this blizzard. But at this point you didn't care. Maybe this person can help me! You thought, finally being given some hope of surviving.

You ran forward towards the figure but you were immediately pushed back by the full force of the wind, no longer blocked by the trees.

You tried to stand up, but your cold, numb legs refused to respond anymore. You were exhausted from fighting with the wind and all your body wanted to do was lie down and rest.

But you wouldn't give up. Not yet. Not when help was right in front of you.

So with muscles screaming in protest you sat up and did the only thing a person in your position could do.

You screamed.

"HELP! P-PLEASE! S-SOMEB-BODY HELP M-ME!!

You weren't sure if they could hear you over the howling wind, but that thought only made you scream louder. You were also unsure of how far away they were, the snow made it impossible to tell, but you hoped against hope that they could hear you and that they would help.

You were in full-blown panic mode now. Your cries were becoming hoarse and the wind was throwing snow at you from all angles. You were shaking violently, your teeth were chattering so you could hardly get a single word out, and you could barely keep your numb body upright. Also, it didn't look like the dark figure was coming closer at all. It looked like it was actually moving away from you.

"P-p-plea-ease…" Hot tears escaped from your eyes, rolled down your numb cheeks, and were either frozen or blown away by the wind.

You tried to think straight, but you couldn't. There was only one thought running through your head now.

I'm going to die, I'm going to die! I'm going to die because I was too stubborn to turn around when it started to snow, because I tried to walk through the forest. Sobs racked through your body. I don't want to die! I'm going to die. I'm going to die…..

At that moment the wind died down to more of a gentle breeze. Even though the snow was still falling pretty hard you were able to see who the figure was.

It was Ivan Braginski, the human personification of Russia. You had seen the tall Russian at the world meetings but he rarely spoke, so you didn't know much about him. Although you did hear a lot of rumors from the other countries. You didn't really believe those rumors though. Ivan looked  too sweet for those rumors to be true-but you knew very well that looks could be deceiving-what with his child like smile that was usually hidden behind his long white scarf and his soft violet eyes. You did know that he had had a difficult past, and that can make anyone cold. But more than anything else, he seemed rather lonely.

You weren't able to talk to him much, but when you did he was always kind to you. Though you never got much farther than hellos and some small talk before one of your friends-usually Alfred or Feliciano-would drag you elsewhere. It didn't help that you were also incredibly shy.

You hadn't admitted it to any of your friends, but you had developed a crush on the Russian. It's just that-

A rather strong-and cold-gust of wind blew in your face, pulling you from your thoughts. The calm winds wouldn't last long and you knew it. If you couldn't get Ivan's attention you would surely die.

So, mustering what strength you had left you called out to Ivan as loud as you could.

~~*~~*~~*~~

Ivan has been staying in (country) for this month's world meetings. Since there were no meetings today he decided to enjoy the weather.

He loved the snow, it reminded him of Russia. The cold didn't bother him one bit, it got a lot colder in Russia.

Walking around a small nearby forest, Ivan admired how the snow made everything shimmer like diamonds. The only thing he didn't like about snow was that it made it hard to grow sunflowers….

A light snowfall began but Ivan continued to walk, unfazed. The wind picked up and the snow fell harder, but still he walked. He was lost in his thoughts about sunflowers and how best to scare the Baltics.

Despite having two sisters and the Baltics, the large country felt lonely at times. The Baltics were always too scared to hold much of a conversation. Yekaterina was nice, but she was also a bit of a crybaby and they hadn't been able to see each other for a while. And Natalya was, well, she goes without saying. Everyone else was always scared off by his reputation, though for a good reason. Sometimes Ivan just wished that people would stick around longer than to say "hello" and business.

The wind had gone crazy and was blowing the snow around with such force that it was practically a blizzard now.

Wow, this place is a lot like Russia, Ivan thought.

He navigated through the storm without a problem, despite not being able to see very far ahead of him.

Soon Ivan found himself in a field and was hit with the full force of the wind. He shivered, but was otherwise unaffected and continued walking.

Moments after he entered the field, Ivan could hear something through the howling wind. He stopped and listened. It sounded like…cries for help? Ivan looked around and sure enough, not too far ahead of him there was a figure crouched in the snow.

Someone must've gotten lost in this storm, Ivan thought before turning the other way and moving on. This had happened to him before: someone would get lost in a storm like this and as soon as they caught sight of Ivan, they would freak out and run off. They would rather face the storm than him. Not that he cared, sometimes he wouldn't even notice them until they freaked out at the mere sight of him.

Then the wind stopped blowing so harshly and was more gentle, and he just kept walking. Ivan knew that whoever had been calling for help could see him now. That is, if they weren't already dead. He waited to hear the screams of fear. That's not what he heard, what he did hear made him stop in his tracks.

"Ru-Russia!" Someone called his name, but it didn't sound like fear. It sounded more like pleading.

Ivan wiped around and, for a moment, almost forgot how to breathe.

You were kneeling in the snow not too far ahead of him. He recognized you from the world meetings. There you always seemed strong and confident, but now you looked quite the opposite.

Your clothes were clearly wet and weren't doing a good job keeping you warm, for you were violently shaking. Your (e/c) eyes were wide and swam with exhaustion and fear. But not fear of him, Ivan realized, but fear of dying. The wind was playing with your (h/c) hair and some clung to your face as if for dear life. He also noticed that your eyes were puffy and there were tear stains on your cheeks.

Ivan felt an overwhelming surge of guilt-something he rarely felt-that he had been so willing to leave you there to die.

No. He wasn't about to let you die.

You weren't like the others. You were always kind to him. Not out of fear, but real genuine kindness. And even though they were only able to talk a few times, you always managed to say hello to him at every meeting.

"R-Russ-ssia, p-please he-help m-me…" Your strained and weak voice brought Ivan back to reality. He could tell that you wouldn't be able to last much longer, and neither would the calm winds. So with a sudden surge of determination he sprang into action

As quickly as he could, he ran over to where you sat in the snow. When he reached you, he saw that your (e/c) eyes were aglow with a new light: hope. They glowed with such a light that put the sun, moon, and stars all to shame. But there would be time for admiring later. Now, he had to get you someplace warm.

Ivan helped you to stand up, but as soon as he let go you collapsed into him. Your legs just couldn't support you anymore. You clung to his coat just to keep yourself upright. Ivan put his arms around you and said softly, "Don't worry, I'm here now, da."

He felt how wet your jacket was and he quickly took it off and replaced it with his large brown coat. He also did something he thought he would never do: he took off his scarf, reveling his scars and burn marks from long ago, and wrapped it around your neck. It wasn't much, but it would help to keep you warm.

Even without his coat and scarf Ivan still wasn't bothered much by the cold. He was Mother Russia after all.

Then he picked you up bridal style and held you tightly to his chest.

"Th-tha-ank y-you", you managed to whisper.

The wind was starting to get bad again, but Ivan clearly heard you. "Don't thank me yet", he said as he started running.

Where he was staying wasn't far from here and he could easily navigate through the thick snow. It would only a few minutes to reach the house. Ivan just hoped that you could last a few minutes.

No. He was Mother Russia, the strongest country in the world! You were not going to die if he had something to say about it! His grip on you tightened and he ran even faster.

You were still shaking, but not as badly as before thanks to Russia. His thick coat and scarf, and the fact that he was holding you tightly, made you warmer. But your whole body was numb from the cold and you could hardly move.

You were slightly worried about the possibility that you wouldn't make it. But if there was anything you knew about Ivan, it was that he would go at any lengths to get what he wanted. And if he wanted you alive, then you had a pretty good chance.

A particularly cold gust of wind blew against you, causing you to shake even more despite Ivan's coat. You buried your face into Ivan's chest, so you could hear his heartbeat. It was as fast as his running.

You had never been this close to Ivan before. The thought of how close he was holding you would've made you blush if your face wasn't frozen. If this was as close you could be with him, you didn't care…

You were so tired, and you wanted nothing more than to close your eyes and sleep. Despite its fast pace, Ivan's heartbeat sounded so relaxing to you. Soon you could feel yourself begin to slip from consciousness and into a warm, welcoming darkness.

"(f/n)!" A Russian accent startled you. You opened your eyes and looked into Ivan's face. "Don't fall asleep on me, okay?" His violet orbs bore into your (e/c) eyes. They showed determination and, was that worry? Was he worried that you weren't going to survive?

You couldn't speak, so you just nodded.

"Don't worry, we're almost there. Just try to stay awake, da?" You nodded again. He really was worried about you. That was new. You had never known the large country to really feel concerned about anyone.

In fact you never knew that he would help someone like this. You had always heard from the other countries that Russia went around asking people to become one with him and hitting them on the head with a pipe.

Yet here he was, saving your life from a snowstorm when he could've easily just left you.

While you were thinking you didn't notice that you and Ivan had arrived at a large house. That is, until Ivan practically kicked the door down. He didn't want to put you down just so he could get inside.

Warm air instantly greeted you and you sighed in relief.

A startled man who you instantly recognized  as Lithuania rushed in. "M-mr. Russia! What are you-", he must've just noticed you because he looked at you and blinked. "Who's this?"

Russia just glared at him and snapped, "Get me some blankets, now!"

"Y-yes sir!" Lithuania quickly turned around and ran off as fast as he could.

Ivan looked at you and his expression softened, "Don't worry (f/n) I'll have you warm again in no time."

He walked into what you assumed was his living room and sat down on a chair in front of the fireplace, with you in his lap.

Gently Ivan removed his thick coat from you, but left his scarf on you, and tossed onto the floor. Immediately a boy, who you figured was Latvia, came in and took Ivan's coat away.

Now in just your (color) long sleeved shirt you shivered. Ivan held you close, one hand on your waist and the other gently rubbing your arm.

Then Lithuania came back with several blankets and put them all around the both of you.

Ivan nodded for Lithuania to leave and looked at you, giving you a smile, "You are better now, da?"

You managed to find you voice again, "Yeah."

"Good." He rested your head against his chest and stroked your (h/c) hair, "You should rest now."

You felt yourself relax against him. This was actually pretty comfortable, and you felt really warm. But you had never felt this kind of warmth before. It was coming from inside of you and filled your whole body, you also swore you could feel this warmth radiating off of Ivan.

And as much as you would love to fall asleep in his arms then and there, there was something you needed to know.

"Russia?", you asked shyly.

"Call me Ivan" ,he said softly in your ear. The feeling of his breath on your skin made your face heat up.

"Ivan, um, why…why did you save me?" You looked up at him nervously. You had heard about how easily the Russian could be made mad, and how bad his temper could be. But…so far he had done the exact opposite of everything you had heard.

Ivan looked at you as if you had sprouted horns, "I couldn't just let you die." He said it as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"O-oh" ,you turned your head to watch the dancing flames. You felt stupid and ashamed that you had actually believed those rumors, even if it was only for a few moments.

"I know what you're thinking." ,Ivan said after a few moments of awkward silence, "Don't think that I don't know about the rumors. And most of them are true." You tensed a little at this. "But" ,Ivan gently  put a hand on your cheek and turned your head to face him, "I only do those things to my enemies and just people I don't like." You stared into his violet irises. And when what he said processed on your brain you felt your blush deepen.

"you're different from everyone else, da." You noticed how close his face was to yours. "Even though you heard everything they say about me, you weren't afraid to talk to me. Even if it's just a simple hello, but you always say it out of kindness, not fear."

At this point your face was about as red as one of Spain's tomatoes. Was confessing to you? Did he really like you?! You decided that if you wanted him to know how you felt about him, now would be the perfect time.

"Um, Ivan? There's something I've been wanting to tell you, but I've been too shy to…." You weren't exactly sure how to tell him, and this didn't help your burning face at all.

Ivan cocked his head to the side a little, "Da? What is it (f/n)? You tell me."

You closed your eyes, tilted your head down to try to hid your blush and said quietly, "I like you Ivan, a lot."

Then you felt Ivan's hand at your chin, bringing your head back up. You opened an eye and squeaked a little when he pressed his lips to yours. You were surprised, but after a moment you melted into the kiss, your arms finding their way around his neck. You had expected him to be rough and hard, but he was gentle and loving.

After what felt like forever and no time and all you broke apart. Stupid lungs and their need for air.

Ivan rested his forehead against yours, "I like you too, (f/n)."

You smiled, "You know, now I'm actually glad I got lost in that storm."

Ivan chuckled and kissed your forehead, "Da."

You snuggled into him and closed your eyes, soon falling asleep. Ivan laid his head on yours and murmured, "я тебя люблю." ,before he too fell asleep, feeling happier than he has in a long time.

~~*The Next Day*~~

Alfred looked around at the chatting countries in the room, "Alright, so now we just need to wait for Ivan and (f/n)."

Matthew looked at his brother, "Do you think (f/n)'s okay? I heard that she had gotten lost in the storm yesterday and Ivan found her and took her to his place."

Alfred's face paled and his eyes widened, "Really? Y-you don't think he-"

Just then the doors opened and you and Ivan walked in, holding hands. Ivan was smiling at you and you were giggling at something he had said.

All of the other countries had quieted down and were staring at you as if you had lost your mind.

Quickly Alfred ran up to you and brought you into a big bear hug. "(f/n)! Are you okay?! He didn't take advantage of you or hurt you did he?!" He looked at Ivan, "I swear if you did either of those things I will beat your commie ass!!"

"Alfred!" ,You managed to break yourself from his death grip, "It's okay! I got lost in the storm yesterday and Ivan saved me."

He backed up a step and looked at you with a stunned expression, "So…he didn't do anything to you at all?"

Ivan put an arm around your shoulder, "Come on America. If you honestly think that I would do that to my sunflower" ,you blushed a little at the nickname, "then you are much more stupid than I thought, da?"

He led you to a place at the table where you could sit next to each other, leaving a-for once-speechless Alfred behind you.

When things started to get back to normal, Ivan leaned towards you so you could hear him speak, "So, after the meeting do you want to spend the rest of the day with me?" You could've sworn that there was a light blush beginning to spread across his face.

"Sure!" ,you said cheerfully, "Where do you want to go?"

Ivan thought for a moment, "How about we go for a walk in the woods, da?"

You felt your face pale a little, remembering the events of the previous day, "I...I don't know Ivan…."

"Hey, don't worry" ,Ivan said softly, pecking your lips, "You'll be with me. And I'll make sure you don't get lost again, da."
